The Difference between Cosmetic Dentistry and General Dentistry
Many people can’t really tell the difference between Cosmetic Dentistry and General Dentistry, in fact, there are even some who think that the two are just the same. Cosmetic Dentistry is very different from General Dentistry though they both deal with the teeth. There are dentist who can perform general dentistry but can’t do Cosmetic Dentistry.
General Dentistry deals on simple and necessary tooth treatments
Consists of regular cleaning, treating cavities, root canals, fillings and other treatments that are needed to relieve the patient from pains or discomfort caused by a tooth. General Dentistry usually deals with the prevention and treatment of oral problems and diseases.
General Dentists are required to complete higher education and also need to complete the necessary training just like Cosmetic Dentists.
On the other hand, Cosmetic Dentistry is a form of specialty Dentistry. A Dentist who has already studied General Dentistry will still have to undergo special training to acquire the skills and knowledge needed for performing procedures.
Cosmetic Dentistry is concentrated basically on the appearance of the teeth.
It deals with problems like teeth stains or discoloration and crooked, chipped, cracked, or missing tooth.
When you smile, the teeth are the first ones to be seen and noticed by other people and if you have a not-so-perfect set of teeth, it could affect the way you look and it could also have a great impact on your self confidence. To solve these problems, you would need Cosmetic Dentistry treatments. These treatments are not really necessary as your teeth will still function even though you would not get these treatments done. They are usually needed to improve your teeth’s, your smile’s, and your overall appearance and image.
There are many kinds of Cosmetic Dentistry procedures
The most popular is the teeth whitening or bleaching. This treatment could be done inside the Dentist’s office or inside your own home. Cheap teeth whitening treatments could give you positive and remarkable results in just a short period of time. In-house teeth whitening could make your teeth whiter in just an hour or less. This could deliver the best possible results but this is also the most expensive type of teeth whitening treatment. Teeth whitening kits could deliver results in about a week or so.
